Dissolving Lines

/ 2023

Led by material practice, Avidani aspires to push the limits of materials by leveraging techniques originating from 3D modeling and its associated aesthetics and translating these digital methodologies into the realm of sculptural handcrafted pieces, mold-making, and slip-casting techniques.

Her practice delves into the vast spectrum that bridges the domains of art and design, and the role of craft practitioner, encompassing diverse manifestations and possibilities.

This exploration encapsulates the interplay between contrasting qualities, including softness and hardness, dynamism and stasis, while also evoking subtle allusions to the human form.

White Cube

One-of-a-kind Eight piece cube, made from high-fire stoneware clay, glazed white to a sandy texture.

Made in a press mold technique, where the original positives of the sculptures were made in a unique method the artists have been developing [ing over the past year.

Avidani embarks on an exploration of symbolic divisions between bodies, this fascination with liminal spaces, dissolving lines, and porous boundaries permeate the entire project while remaining firmly grounded in a material-led practice that transforms the studio into an expansive arena for visual and tactile research.

Notably, the human body not only finds representation within the sculptures themselves but also emerges through the artist's interaction with the artwork, engendering a profound engagement between creator and creation.

Of human bondage

/ 2021

A collection of chains and knots, shedding light on the essence of human relationships, our connections, limitations, desires, temptations, and dreams. She also strives to accentuate the contrasting nature of chains, an object often associated with imprisonment - and how it also evokes a strong sense of security and consistency.

This body of work has been exhibited at the Florence Biennial, Royal Academy, WAC, and more, and has been awarded several awards including the NG creative residency award in 2021.
